此畫系為中共中央上海局秘書長李宇超所作，當(dāng)年為了保護作品免遭破壞，將上款“宇超”的“宇”字添筆改成“寶”字，從而躲過劫難，本幅杰作得以保全至今，并更添歷史色彩。眾所周知，金剛破時期傅抱石因創(chuàng)作條件所限，所創(chuàng)作品多為小尺幅作品，而是幅《深山訪友圖》尺寸竟達五平尺多，此后更陪伴傅抱石十余年之久，由此可見傅抱石對于此件作品也是頗為滿意且心愛至極的，不失為為傅抱石重慶金剛坡時期的精品力作。受蜀中山水氣象磅礴的啓發(fā)，傅抱石力行藝術(shù)變革，以典型的“抱石皴”表現(xiàn)山水結(jié)構(gòu)。畫面的整體墨色自下而上，由深至淺，以縱向構(gòu)圖，崇山峻嶺充斥全幅，視覺上極具張力與沖擊力，通幅筆墨蒼茫雄奇，夏季的巴山夜雨煙霧彌漫，不辨東西。左下角以凝練筆墨繪二高士，與濃厚山景形成強烈對比，為畫眼所在。傅抱石在本幅作品中展現(xiàn)出收放自如的造境能力，更是藝術(shù)家在學(xué)識和修養(yǎng)的不斷積淀而達到的超脫境界。FU BAOSHI  VISITING FRIENDInk and color on paper, hanging scrollIllustrated:1.
